内容記述 | "Abstract Based on the witch trial which occurred in Salem in 1692, and on the Christian concept of the Original Sin, Nathaniel Hawthorne's story ""Young Goodman Brown"" does not describe, but embodies the paradox of the Original Sin, which leads to the impossibility of interpretation of the story. The paradox consists in the impossibility of separating the interpretative meta-level from its lower level. Thus, even the author or the reader cannot remain independent of the story. All they can do is repeat the paradox, which is really a traumatic event in the Freudian sense. In fact, ""Young Goodman Brown"" is Hawthorne's deliberate and artistic repetition, not description, of the trauma as the Salem witch trial, the Original Sin paradox of which nobody is free." | |||||||||
