内容記述 | [Abstract] The origins of the blues is not known conclusively; however, there are numerous theories of the birth of the blues. The music evolved out of several song styles sung by Africans in America. Ultimately, slave songs were the immediate precursor of all African-American music. The blues retains elements of slave songs, such as veiled meaning; varied content, including complaint, revenge, resistance, satire, and protest; the music also functions as a kind of oral history, recording the lives of African-Americans. Slave songs were a conduit by which African culture was passed down from generation to generation; thus, the blues also retains such African musical practices as complex rhythms, the supernatural element, and the social function of the music. Music has provided the essential role of recreating African communities in the Americas. Like all African-American musical forms, the blues expresses personal feelings, which is possibly the most important aspect of the music. | |||||||
