| 内容記述 | [abstract] Eating and sleep are two basic instincts of human being, essential to maintaining energetic lives. Abnormal circadian patterns of eating are observed in clinical field. Two disorders are known sleep related eating disorder and nocturnal eating syndrome. Eating behavior in sleep related eating disorder (SRED) is manifested by recurrent episodes of eating after arousals with or without subsequent amnesia. High calorie foods with carbohydrates and fats are frequently consumed such as breads, pies, ice creams, chocolates, and sometimes potentially hazardous food preparations are observed. Frozen food and uncooked meals are also consumed. Meanwhile, nocturnal eating syndrome (NES) is characterized by uncontrollable binge eating behavior in the evening before bedtime, up to 80% of total calorie intake of the day. Two cases presented here show symptoms characteristics of SRED. Symptom management with topiramate was achieved, without serious complications. | |||||||||
