内容記述 | [Abstract] The purpose of this paper is to investigate the importance of the environmental theory of architecture and to shape the author's future research project. In order to clarify this new concept, this paper discusses the traditional definition of architectural theory together with the problems associated with this definition. One of the main limitations of architectural theory is that it has tended to focus on solely the buildings and not the overall system, which encompasses human beings, buildings, and their surroundings. In other words, the new theory, the environmental theory of architecture, is defined as "the theory that aims to systematically understand physical structures in their environment as a whole and the essence of that environment." Then, this paper introduces certain experimental projects in order to demonstrate how students gained insight regarding their environment. Through these projects, the students rediscovered the intrinsic value of their hometowns and neighborhood shops in the surrounding areas. Moreover, they learned how to relate buildings to their residents, and attempted to give advice on urban rejuvenation. To conclude, the author states to the local authorities that his future research project will reexamine the meaning of social structure as a "whole," by quoting the renowned architect Walter Adolph Georg Gropius, who founded the Bauhaus School. | |||||||||
