| 内容記述 | [Synopsis] Phenol-formaldehyde resin has been used as a versatile material for adhesives and coatings of a wide range of adherends because of its excellent performance in water- resistance, strength against abrasion, and so on. However, it has a drawback of slow rate of cure and relevant emission of formaldehyde gas after bonding. We studied the curing performance under irradiation of microwave for the purpose of looking for a way of accelerating the cure rate of phenol formaldehyde resin. The surface stiffness of resin-impregnated wood (radiata pine) veneer cured by irradiation of microwave was measured by using phenolic resins prepared in our laboratory under several reaction conditions (aqueous resole PF resins and methanol-soluble novolak resins synthesized under different reaction periods). The wood pieces were impregnated in the resins under a reduced pressure (10min.) and normal pressure (60min.) and hereafter dried at room temperature for 24 hr. Cure of the resin was carried out by irradiation of microwave of 2450 MHz for 30-120 sec under 38.6 gf/cm^2 of pressure. The surface hardness of cured resin was measured according to the static hardness testing method. As the result, aqueous PF resins gave better surface hardness than methanol-soluble resins. Especially, high-molecular weight PF resin under long time of irradiation gave the best surface hardness under our testing conditions. As for methanol- soluble PF, however, low molecular weight resin with better impregnation to wood sample gave better hardness. Furthermore it was found the moisture content of wood veneer had a influence on the result, and wood veneer of moisture content around 10% gave better result. Impregnation of the resin is facilitated at lower moisture content of substrate, but theresults suggest that presence of some extra water facilitates the resin curing. | |||||||||||||||||
