The experimental variables included in the test series were loading rate, loading path and failure mode. The loading rates were 0.014 %/sec and 1.4 %/sec. The failure modes of shear walls with an opening were the shear,flexural shear and flexure. The reversed cyclic and monotonic lateral load under a constant axial load were applied to the specimens.The lateral load carrying capacity of shear walls with an opening subjected to the lateral load at the high loading rate were larger than that at the low loading rate.
