Here I examine the DNA end joining activity to restore DSBs bearing distinct types of DNA ends in embryonic and adult brains. Embryonic brains contained the end joining activity for cohesive DNA ends. By contrast, adult brains showed no detectable end joining activity. The degree of the end joining activity seemed to be correlated with viability of neurons in culture.
