 note = {[概要] ソーントン・ワイルダーの短編小説のなかで最も遅くに出版された「軍艦」では, ワイルダーの戯曲で繰り返し用いられている「人生にもっと十分にもっと自由に参加したいという人間の熱望」というモチーフが使われている. その意味でこの短編小説はほかのワイルダーの作品と関連している重要な作品であるのだが, そのモチーフがこの作品においてのみ少し形を変えて用いられている. その「変奏」がなぜこの短編小説のみに起こっているのかということを, この作品の執筆時期を推察することを通して明らかにする.
[Abstract] In "The Warship," which was published last of all the short stories Thornton Wilder wrote, the motif, "the aspirations of the young ［and not only of the young］ for a fuller, freer participation in life," is used. This motif recurs in many of Wilder's plays. "The Warship" is very important because it is related to other works of his by the common motif. However, a variation of the motif is used in this short story.
