| 内容記述 | [概要] ソーントン・ワイルダーの後期のサイクル劇のひとつである「人間の七つの世代」に含まれる２本の一幕劇「青年時代」と「地下を流れる川」は未完の作品である. 「青年時代」は, 演劇の新しい表現形式を提示できていないこと, 舞台上で物語を押し進めていくアクションがないこと, 「地下を流れる川」は, 演劇的手法は用いられているものの, 物語を押し進めていくアクションがないこと, モチーフを話の筋の中にうまく組み込むことができていないことが, それぞれが未完になった理由として考えられる. さらに, ワイルダー自身が, 新しい演劇的手法をもつ芸術作品としての戯曲をもう創造できないことを自覚していたということも, 理由として付け加えられるかもしれない. [Abstract] Thornton Wilder's two one-act plays: "Youth "and "The River Under the Earth," which are included in one of his cycle plays, The Seven Ages of Man, he wrote in his later years, were left unfinished. The reasons why they were left unfinished can be mentioned as follows: in "Youth," neither new nor established dramatic method is used, and no dramatic action by which the plot of the play moves ahead happens; in "The River Under the Earth, "no dramatic action happens either though some dramatic methods are used, and some central motifs of which Wilder emphasizes the importance are not firmly embedded in the plot of the play. It may also be added to the reasons that Wilder realized he could not write any more plays with a new dramatic method which would be recognized as a work of art. |
