内容記述 [Abstract] The purpose of this longitudinal study is to investigate the affective outcomes of short-term study abroad (SA) participation by 100 Japanese English Foreign Language (EFL) students who will be traveling to a non-English speaking country for English language study. This investigation will seek to determine if significant changes occur in five affective factors, EFL self-efficacy, language anxiety, integrative motivation, willingness to communicate (WTC), and instrumental motivation. These constructs were selected as it is hypothesized they will support continued learning and an elevated trajectory of proficiency and motivation in the future for SA participants in comparison to non-SA participants. This research will also examine whether pre-SA affective differences existed for SA participants versus non-SA learners. A battery of tests will be administered to analyze these affective factors before, during and after the SA program. Due to the brevity of the SA program, the researcher has reservations about the realization of significant changes in language proficiency. Therefore, results will be analyzed in relation to language proficiency but language proficiency will not be a major variable in the study.
