The first important subject of OR/MS education is the concept of OR/MS, but this has been neglected by most of the universities in Japan. The concept of OR/MS involves how we should think when we encounter real problems that require solutions. The concept of OR/MS is important, since If we have no idea on the concept of OR/MS, it is impossible to solve problems effectively. The second important subject is various models of OR/MS. These subjects are taught in most universities in Japan. If OR/MS models are taught without the guiding concept of OR/MS, students recognize OR/MS as only an aggregation of techniques for solving various models.
