Ira Kipnis, James Weinstein, John Laslett, and Mari Jo Buhle bring sharply different perspectives to this problem and the ways in which class, gender, labor politics, ethnicity, and factionalism framed the rise and decline of American socialism in the years between 1870 and 1920.
