Students of my seminar class are required to have a basic knowledge of mathematical thinking and to have motivation for study. To confirm applicants\u0027 knowledge of mathematical thinking, I examine them in arithmetic and elementary mathematics. To confirm motivation for study, I use PCA (Principal Component Analysis) of results from various courses applicants have taken. This PCA score is a direct index of applicants\u0027 motivation for study.
